About Acupuncture
The practice of acupuncture involves the insertion of needles into the skin to stimulate specific points of the body. In its classical form it is a characteristic component of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), and one of the traditional healing practices in the world.
The general theory of acupuncture is based on the premise that bodily functions are regulated by an energy called qi which flows through the body; disruptions of this flow are believed to be responsible for the disease. There are a variety of acupuncture techniques to stimulate anatomical points on or under the skin (called acupuncture points or acupoints) to correct imbalances in the flow of qi.
Health Tips & Info
Traditional Chinese medicine explains that health is the result of a harmonious balance of the complementary extremes of “yin” and “yang” of the life force known as “qi,” pronounced “chi.” Disease results when these opposite forces are unbalanced.
Qi is said to flow through meridians, or pathways, in the human body. These meridians and energy flows are accessible through 350 acupuncture points in the body.
The flow of energy is said to be restored by inserting acupuncture needles into these points in the appropriate combination.
