Homeopathy is an alternative medical system developed in Germany more than 200 years ago. It has been suggested by Samuel Hahnemann in 1796. Supporters of homeopathy mention two unconventional theories on which homeopathy is based
· “like cures like”, i.e. the notion that which a substance is capable of causing, it is also capable of curing. The principle of treating “like the like” dates even back to Hippocrates (460-377BC) but it got worldwide use during the latest 200 years.
· “law of the minimum dose”, i.e. the more diluted the homeopathic preparation, the more powerfully it works.
The principle of treating “like the like” dates even back to Hippocrates (460-377BC) but it got worldwide use during the latest 200 years. According to the 2012 National Health Interview Survey (NHIS) in USA, which included a comprehensive survey on the use of complementary health approaches by Americans, an estimated 5 million adults and 1 million children used homeopathy in 2011.
In other words homeopathy suggests that a substance which causes symptoms when taken in large doses, can be used in small amounts to treat similar symptoms. For example, drinking too much coffee can mostly cause sleeplessness or agitation, so according to those principles, when made into a homeopathic medicine, it could be used to treat people with these symptoms.
Homeopathic medicines, often called “remedies” by homeopaths, are prepared by specialist pharmacies using a careful process of highly diluted substances which can affect the body in a unique way. It is not yet possibly to explain scientifically the mechanism of action of ultra-high dilutions in the body, but various laboratory experiments have demonstrated that homeopathically prepared substances are able to cause biological effects and are distinct from pure water’, as some sceptics have suggested. Using the method of dilution, which involves successive dilution with utterly pure distilled water as well as succession, or shaking, the water molecules create patterns, like snowflakes, unique and precise. Homeopathic remedies are derived from natural substances but contrary to the popular belief homeopathy is not the same as herbal medicine as in the process of series of dilutions the toxicity of herbs are eliminated and the therapeutic benefits are increased.
Homeopathy is a natural form of medicine used to treat both acute and chronic diseases. Homeopathic doctors work in the same way as any other conventional doctors. They consider history, do examination and investigation and then establish the diagnosis. However, as well as asking about your symptoms, a homeopathic doctor will be interested in your lifestyle, eating habits and preferences, sleep patterns, etc. This will help him to form a complete picture of you to match it to the symptoms of your illness in order to prescribe a particular type of medicine right for you personally.
